Understanding the 10-Hour Rule

The Army has a 10-hour rule to protect children and ensure safe, regulated childcare in military housing. Any individual providing childcare for more than 10 hours per week on a regular basis must be certified and an FCC provider through Child and Youth Services (CYS).

Unauthorized Childcare

Providing unauthorized childcare in government housing is a violation of Army policy. Unregulated care may put children at risk and can result in penalties including:

  • Loss of housing privileges

  • Possible legal consequences

  • Removal of children from an unapproved childcare setting.

Reporting Concerns

If you suspect unauthorized childcare is being provided in military housing, you can report it to your local CYS office. Ensuring compliance with Army childcare regulations protects children and families in your community.

For more details on FCC certification and compliance, contact your FCC Office or visit MilitaryChildCare.com.
